In all the excitment of my last scan I forgot to share the reception I received when I returned to work.
Before I can continue I need to set the scene. I sit opposite quite an annoying woman. She is very loud and has very little empathy for anything or anybody. She didn't struggle to conceive and, even though three colleagues have had IVF, she doesn't fully understand that there are people who do struggle to conceive.
She does know that I have been trying for quite some time now. When she was pregnant with her child (who is coming up to two) she asked me if I was trying. After returning from maternity leave she continued to say lots of inappropriate things like why don't you have a baby? are you trying for a baby? all you need is a holiday? all you need to do is relax? etc. Not so long ago she asked me if I was going to do IVF. All of these questions have been met with silence but she just doesn't take the hint.
I had placed the scan in my calendar as a private appointment, when I got back I was greeted by her saying very loudly where have you been? I've been worried? Have you been to the hospital? You have, haven't you? Have you got some good news to share? You've been for your 12 week scan, haven't you?
She also emailed a colleague who wasn't even at work that day to ask her if she knew where I was. The colleague didn't respond but, when she came in on Monday, this woman said to her you didn't respond to my email. Our colleague told her to leave it, that she had the wrong end of the stick.
This is her problem, she just doesn't know when to leave it. I have had over two years of her asking questions about starting a family and now she appears to have gone in to overdrive.
I can just imagine all the questions when I actually start IVF.
